Here’s another quick hoops update. My team, Mersin Buyuksehir Bld. of Mersin, Turkey played a great game against Ted Kolej, located in Kayseri, Turkey. We jumped out on them early in the game and never looked back. We beat them handily, 95-59. Even the coach for the other team was so disillusioned that he was ejected from the game for exceeding the maximum number of technical fouls called per bench (3). He slowly exited the court, causing a ruckus as he left, inciting the fans to heckle the referees. Honestly though, the officiating had no impact on the outcome of the game whatsoever. By the time of his ejection we were already up by 20 or 30 points. We were playing so well that their players were increasing their physicality to overcome the apparent mismatch. This caused the officials to call more fouls in our favor, yet they missed or overlooked many calls as well. Here’s a link to the game stats. Be advised that this is a Turkish website, however and therefore, the stat columns are labeled in Turkish as well.

Our next game is coming this Sunday against Galatasaray, a usual Turkish powerhouse. This year, they aren’t fairing as well as years previous, but they do have a few extenuating circumstances to account for that, however. There have been a few personnel changes as well as a coaching change. In the first half they had Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Seimone Augustus. Taj left to play for Schio, Italy, but now they have 2 new post players, Sophia Young and Kara Braxton and another guard Keisha Brown. These three additions give Galatasaray a totally different look and hope for a late push for a championship. We hope to be able to continue our tirade as of late, and pressure and run them into another loss against us. The first game came down to a last second shot…but we hope to have the game in hand, sooner, as to not have to bite our nails up until the last moment of the game, yet again.

Stay tuned!
