Here’s a quick update on how my team is doing in the Turkish Women’s Basketball League. I play for Mersin Buyuksehir Bld. and we are currently in 3rd place. We just won a tough away game yesterday in Istanbul vs. Besiktas. Traditionally, it’s a difficult match, playing in their house with the referees giving them the respect of being one of the top 3 teams in the league every year. This time around, however, we pretty much had our way with them. We were only up a few points at the half, but we turned it on to start the 3rd quarter. We pressed and pulled away for a 21 point win.
We have 4 games left to finish the season. I’ll admit, it’s a difficult stretch considering our last 3 games we’ll play 3 out of the top 5 teams in the league. It’s as if our playoffs begin now. The good news is if we win out, we finish in 1st! I think the city of Mersin will erupt with joy because it’s been a while since a team from southern Turkey has dominated the league. Coincidentally, our coach, Ceyhun Yildizoglu, was the head coach of the last team to do so, Botas.
That’s all for now…I’ll keep you posted.
