I feel like Britney Spears, except it’s me who’s so toxic. Toxic poisoning is more like it. We practiced in a gym today that had toxic fumes hanging in the air as if we were at ground zero of an atom bomb testing site. The gym is located near the city dump, but burning trash isn’t even the stench that pervades the area. Gaseous, noxious, fumes, that’s what we smelled. As soon as we opened the car door, we were slapped in the face with it. The gym smelled even worse. Probably because the heaters were on and helped to marinate the smell in a way that no one would wish for. I tried to look at the bright side (like I usually do) and thought, at least its nice and warm in here unlike our usual gym.
Unfortunately, looking at the bright side doesn’t do much for one’s ability to breathe. As practice went on, I started to feel a sensation like I had heartburn. Except it wasn’t gastrointestinal. This was heartburn in my lungs and trachea, if you can imagine that. I kept thinking that we all needed surgical masks or even gas masks so we wouldn’t completely fall victim to toxic poisoning. Thank goodness this practice was the day before our next game, so we were spared the usual 2 hours of practice time. We got out of there early, and I can safely say, there were no casualties.
I guess that’s another thing for me to miss about America…regulations. As much as I love Turkey and the people, I don’t love a practice gym inconveniently located AT the city dump. I don’t love the tendency to burn trash on the streets by the city workers. I don’t love the lack of regulations that would contribute to everyone’s good health.
Anyway, sorry I needed to vent, I guess it’s because I needed A vent LOL!
